Thank you for visiting my website and I hope you enjoy the images!
Through my photographs, I endeavor to capture and share the beauty and wonder of nature as it exists at a particular moment in time, allowing you to appreciate often-overlooked details or a unique perspective on a subject.
On this site you will see a variety of images, reflecting my evolution as a photographer. My first love was beautiful landscape vistas, and you will see many of these. Lately, I’ve been focusing (pun intended) on what I call ‘nature scenes’. A nature scene is just one eyeful, a small piece cut out of the scenery before you. I’ve also been exploring abstract shots through close-up (macro) photography that highlights textures and pattern without obviously revealing the subject.
My passion for nature is rooted in my upbringing in rural northern Michigan. As a child, I spent a great deal of time enjoying the outdoors and first discovered the joy of photography in high school on a visit to the copper-colored Tahquamenon Falls in the Upper Peninsula. Michigan’s countryside has beautiful rolling hills and great expanses of forests that especially delight when their bold colors show every autumn. Lake Huron was a stone’s throw from my childhood home, and the state’s thousands of inland lakes and rivers continue to offer much for the water enthusiast in me. Combining my photographic skills with another passion, sailboat racing, I also shoot regattas in the metro Detroit area where I now live.
I’ve taken thousands of photographs over the years while on vacation or traveling, but in 2014 I decided to retire from my job as an executive for a utility company and take my life in a different direction. Since then I have dedicated most of my time to exploring and photographing the world around me, and I’m enjoying every moment of it! I strive to continually develop and exercise my skills as a photographer by using my camera almost every day.
It is most rewarding when someone says they were motivated to visit a place because of a photo I’ve shared, or tells me they’ve started to notice new things around them after viewing my work. If you become so inspired, I'd love to hear about it.
Once again, thanks for visiting my website and don't hesitate to contact me with any questions.
